Following recent leaks from Amazon and Best Buy, Apple is expected to officially announce the Beats Studio Buds+ on Wednesday, May 17, at 7 a.m. Pacific Time. This speculation has been fueled by a cryptic tweet from Beats, showcasing what appears to be the new transparent Studio Buds+ charging case.
Peeking into the new features
The anticipated new features of Studio Buds+ include a novel transparent design, echoing the Nothing Ear (2) earbuds, and an impressive battery life of up to 36 hours with the provided USB-C charging case.
Additionally, the earbuds are set to feature 3x larger microphones and up to 1.6x more active noise cancellation than their predecessor, the original Studio Buds released in 2021. According to an Amazon listing, which has since been removed, the earbuds will retail at $169.95 in the U.S.
A sporty alternative to AirPods Pro
The Beats Studio Buds+ are viewed as a sportier counterpart to the AirPods Pro, boasting a more compact design that eschews the protruding “stems” characteristic of other earbuds. They will be offered in Black and Ivory colors and come with a range of ear tip sizes (XS, S, M, and L) to accommodate different ear shapes, as revealed by leaked photos and the erstwhile Amazon listing.
A journey from beta code to store shelves
The Beats Studio Buds+ first came into the limelight last month when they were spotted in the iOS 16.4 beta code. Since then, they have been sighted in FCC filings and other regulatory databases worldwide. Apple, after acquiring Beats in 2014 for a cool $3 billion, became the proprietor of both the Beats Electronics headphones line and the Beats Music streaming service, which later evolved into Apple Music.
